Charles P. Rogers & Co

January 17, 2014

Charles P. Rogers & Company is the oldest bedding manufacturer and retailer in the United States. Established in 1855 by Charles P. Rogers, a New York industrialist and socialite, the company began manufacturing brass and iron beds which became popular in the 1850’s due to bed bugs and vermin. Unlike wood there is no place for these pesky creatures to hide. Rogers first retail location was at 384 Hudson Street, near Houston Street on the Soho/West Village border.

To this day, Charles P. Rogers hand crafts their brass, iron and wooden beds in a factory in East Rutherford New Jersey. The are sold through their factory showroom at 26 West 17th Street, a warehouse outlet at 300 Route 17 North, East Rutherford, on their website and their catalogue.

Having owned a Charles P. Rogers brass bed for the last 15 years, I am positive this bed will be in my family for many generations.
