Christianos in Syosset New York

March 2, 2014

Christiano’s Italian Restaurant in Syosset, New York is closing after 56 years in business. The restaurant, said to be the inspiration for Billy Joel’s “Scenes from an Italian Restaurant” was purchased by the Singh Hospitality Group last year and the plans to close the restaurant in August were postponed. Joel dedicated the song to Christiano’s at the song’s debut at C.W. Post in 1977, intimating that the restaurant was the song’s inspiration. In 2012, Joel said that the actual restaurants was in New York City.

According to Newsday, Tom Schaudel, of Syosset’s Coolfish will work on the restaurant’s concept. The new restaurant will probably not be Italian or bear the Christiano’s name.
